OCI & Open Source Partners Announce JPA Support for GORM

In collaboration with Ellucian and Campground Automation, we are pleased to announce the forthcoming release of JPA support for GORM!

GORM is a powerful, Groovy-based data access toolkit for the JVM.  The most current version is GORM 6, the data access toolkit used by Grails, which provides a rich set of APIs for accessing relational and non-relational data, including implementations for Hibernate (SQL), MongoDB, Neo4j, Cassandra, Redis and an in-memory Concurrent HashMap for testing.

The Java Persistence API (JPA) is a Java specification for accessing, persisting, and managing data betweenJavaobjects/ classes and a relational database. JPA was defined as part of the EJB 3.0 specification, as a replacement for the EJB 2 CMP Entity Beans specification.

OCI expects to release the GA version of the plug-in this March. Milestone and future release downloads will be available at grails.org

In addition to creating Groovy classes that map to a relational database using the native GORM syntax, GORM 6.1 introduces the ability to map Groovy classes using standard JPA 2.x annotations.

WHAT OUR CLIENTS ARE SAYING

“Grails and Groovy have been a tremendous tool for Campground Automation Systems to rapidly develop and deploy business-grade property management software across North America.  OCI has been a vital help for us as we have undertaken the Grails upgrade process. With OCI's help and support, we are excited about the future of these amazing tools.”

– Tyler Duffy, President
Campground Automation Systems

“At Ellucian, we made a significant investment in the Grails framework from the earliest 1.x releases. Now, a large part of our current Banner Product line is built on top of Grails.  As part of the Grails 3.0 upgrade process, OCI has been very supportive in listening to our migration plans and incorporating our feedback into the framework, which will simplify upgrading our codebase and further enhance functionality.”

– Rod Morris, Director of Software Development
Ellucian

OCI is Home to the Grails Core Team and Co-Founders, Graeme Rocher and Jeff Scott Brown. The Groovy and Grails community continues to show unprecedented growth, and the Grails framework confers significant developer productivity and innovation through convention over configuration. Recent expansions of regional user groups and global conferences demonstrate the significance of the Grails framework to companies large and small.

“At OCI we are in a unique position to help our clients advance and innovate by understanding their objectives and requirements and building and incorporating those features into the Framework. Developing JPA support is an example of OCI’s open development philosophy, which benefits both the client and the Grails community long-term.”
