Groovy & Grails Meetup - March 1st

Jeff Scott Brown, OCI Principal Software Engineer and Grails Practice Lead, will be leading a discussion on Groovy as a General Purpose JVM Language.

Groovy is a powerful, dynamic language for the JVM and is often associated with the Grails framework. There are many reasons why Groovy makes sense for building Grails and Grails projects, but Groovy is a widely applicable, general purpose language. This talk is going to explore why Groovy makes sense almost anywhere that a developer might otherwise choose Java. There are some misconceptions about Groovy that affect how folks view the language, and this session will address those.  We will discuss the many aspects of the language that make it more compelling than Java, and also discuss situations where Java might still be the right choice. This talk will be of interest to Groovy developers, as well as those looking for a more complete view of the possibilities when building JVM applications.
