The latest version in a long line of open source RT-CORBA implementations commercially supported by OCI.
For the last eight months an OCI team has been engaged to add capabilities to TAO such that a client could dramatically scale the size of their CORBA implementation. By switching to an open source ORB, from a proprietary product, the client was able to add hundreds of new servers with no additional license fees. Many new features are implemented in an automated manner such that they are hidden from the user. This includes fault tolerant behaviors, load balancing, management of thread pooling, retries etc. Even the new version 3.3 of JacORB, a companion Java ORB to TAO, benefits by being able to take advantage of TAO's now, fault-tolerant Implementation Repository, which can register and launch JacORB servers.
Dr. Moshiri Founder of OCI remarked that "OCI's 14 years of commercial support for TAO, a truly open source CORBA product, has few parallels. No other complex middleware comes close to our implementations of the Object Management Group's (OMG) specifications in terms of high quality and lowest cost of ownership."
