On March 13, 2019, Joe Epplin, Solution Architect at Object Computing, Inc. (OCI), shared his expertise in the areas of microservices and cloud engineering with a global audience in a webinar titled, "Your Transition to Microservices."
In the 45-minute webinar, Joe used Alexander the Great’s legendary Gordian Knot as a metaphor for monolithic legacy systems and provided a recipe for business-process decomposition and refactoring.
Joe shared practical, real-world examples of projects he has architected and discussed a variety of technical tools he has used, including the new JVM-based development framework, Micronaut. Micronaut co-founder, Jeff Scott Brown, joined the webinar and answered detailed questions about the framework.
Joe concluded the webinar by recommending a strategy for getting started with microservices, outlining the following three key steps:
- Identify a framework.
- Define and document your preferred architecture.
- Begin your business process decomposition.
