Technical Advisory Board Features Industry Leading Technologists
Today, we announced the formation of the Micronaut Foundation, a not-for-profit company established to advance innovation and adoption of Micronaut®, a free and open, public-use software development framework used to build modular, easily testable microservice and serverless applications.
Micronaut Foundation oversees software roadmap and development, best practices and processes, repository control, documentation and support, and fundraising related to the open source framework.
Formation of Micronaut Foundation
The bylaws of Micronaut Foundation provide that Object Computing will maintain, in perpetuity, a majority interest in the Foundation to serve as a steward of the Micronaut framework and its growing global open source community. Object Computing has committed an initial contribution of $2M to fund open source product development and evangelism for Micronaut.
“The formation of the Foundation reflects the growing need to balance the diverse range of interests from the Micronaut community and contributing organizations,” said Graeme Rocher, co-founder of the Micronaut framework. “As Micronaut’s adoption continues to accelerate, the additional governance provided by the Foundation will ensure all interested parties have a voice, resulting in a much more inclusive approach to the direction of the project.”
Micronaut Foundation’s Technical Leadership
Micronaut Foundation is supported by a Technology Advisory Board that ensures the Framework continues to reflect and serve its diverse and growing user community. The Board will meet quarterly to discuss and make recommendations regarding Micronaut’s roadmap and technical direction.
The Technical Advisory Board is composed of key project contributors and partners in the ecosystem, including:
-
Graeme Rocher, Micronaut Foundation, co-founder and Director
-
Jeff Scott Brown, Micronaut Foundation, co-founder and Director; Micronaut Practice Lead at Object Computing
-
James Kleeh, Object Computing, Micronaut Development Lead
-
Ken Sipe, Mesosphere, Cloud Solutions Architect
-
Neal Ford, ThoughtWorks, Director, Cloud Architect
-
Zhamak Dehghani, ThoughtWorks, Principal Consultant
-
Venkat Subramaniam, Agile Developer Inc., Founder
-
Yuriy Artamonov, JetBrains, Microservices Fellow
“Our focus continues to be directed at building and helping our community create better technology,” said Jeff Scott Brown. “This is what we do and will continue to do. The community is an important part of this journey for us — the most important part of the journey. Our commitment to honor and serve this community continues to grow.”
About Micronaut
In 2017, the Micronaut team at Object Computing set out to build an intelligent compiler that precomputed framework infrastructure to achieve the same productivity benefits gained from Spring®, without the runtime overhead.
Object Computing released Micronaut in May 2018 and, in a very short time, Micronaut has significantly evolved how developers view startup time and memory consumption in building microservices and serverless applications.
Micronaut has upended how developers approach framework design in server-side Java. By shifting framework infrastructure into a compiler feature, Micronaut rewrites the book on how frameworks should be built in the post-Java EE world. Micronaut eliminates the need to use complex runtime Java container technologies to obtain features like AOP, transaction management, caching, and more. Micronaut has demonstrated that the future is intelligent compilers and smaller, faster runtimes.
Since inception, Micronaut has enjoyed massive enthusiasm, engagement, and adoption within the JVM community. For example, Micronaut core has 3.8k stars on GitHub and more than 200 contributors. Micronaut is being used in production at Alibaba, Target, Minecraft, Boeing, and many other organizations.
Micronaut is licensed under the very liberal Apache 2 License.
